WELCOME
It's in the telling of stories that we reveal what we hold dear and who we are. It's by listening to each other's stories that we grow in understanding about the Other, the world, and ourselves. It's in that momentary insight, that fragile understanding, that we come to hope - even delight - in the possibilities for social harmony and a common good. It's to that hope, that vision for social harmony that we dedicate the stories and discussions of the center for sacred story.
Religious superiority, political certitude, and economic arrogance have been exposed as dangerous and violent. They need not be predictable elements of a free society. It's not hunger, poverty, religious oppression, and a planet in peril that are Sacred, but rather the stories that invite empathic sight of the Other and teach us the mechanics and strategies for hope.
We're in a moment of new opportunity to reconsider relationship, responsibility, purposeful living, and what it means to be human. Science, the arts, history, communication, and most of all, story collectively light a way forward so that the idea of social harmony can shift from quixotic, romantic, or naïve to clear-headed objective. Welcome to the center for sacred story.
