Welcome

We are known to each other through our stories. We join in the sacred enterprise to know each other more fully by collecting stories that promote understanding and move us towards social harmony. A prerequisite for social harmony is empathic sight of “the other.” Empathy begins with listening to, absorbing, and honoring that which is sacred to the other, which we believe is revealed in a particularly vital way through story.

We are creating an interactive website that is a gathering place for sacred stories. In time this website will be a fully interactive site for audio and video clips of sacred stories as well as commentary from scholars from around the world.

We do not aspire so much to be a clearinghouse for any and all ideas pertaining to “the spiritual,” but rather hope to be dedicated in a narrower way to those stories that promote understanding for the sake of a common good, whether or not those stories are grounded in a religious framework.  In that sense we engage the word “sacred” softly.

Join us by contributing you own stories, whether personal anecdotes, academic papers, sermons, poems, ancient tales from your faith tradition, casual musings, or video clips that give us a glimpse of your sacred story.

Special groups of stories will be selected for recording and publishing as e-books and audio books. We welcome your participation in the center for sacred story. Thank you.
